www.altavista.com — (search engine, searches by keyword) — uses a web index that is maintained and generated by "spiders" that follow links on Web pages, download the pages, and then index them according to words and phrases that the pages contain.

www.yahoo.com — (subject directory, allows you to search within a category, good for browsing) — search results place search terms in categories

Windyweb's site contains a Meta Refresh Tag. Windyweb.com is a brief address for a longer "real" address that you are taken to after you hit their brief address (watch the address bar).  When you try to go "back" (out of Windyweb.com), you hit the brief address again and are immediately returned to the full address again, thus producing a loop.  If you click on the "back" button multiple times (double-click or maybe more, quickly), you will jump past the Meta Refresh Tag.
